And so it begins, but I don't expect to be taken seriously

Thank you, my amazing friends
I have amazing friends who tell me constantly that I must blog my valuable wisdom and share with the world my great discoveries. I resisted until now because I figured I didn't need another place on the internet that I "needed" to maintain, however, I've been considering the benefits of blogging. I figure I will try it out and see how I like it.

About me
First and foremost, I am a woman, and most things that come with being such (a mom, a wife, a friend, a daughter, a sister, a healer, a lover, a creator, an organizer--to name a few). I am not afraid of change and experimenting, and through my curiosities and desires to better my life and those around me, I've discovered plenty of wonderful things. I usually share them on Facebook, but they become lost in the sea of past Facebook status updates, eventually becoming useless. And I don't like it when my great discoveries fall into the Facebook abyss. We, as human beings, experience the world in a unique way. The more we share our discoveries, the further we may advance; bettering the lives of ourselves, our family, and the future. I am serious about this business, but I am far from being a serious person. Nope. Nooooooooot serious. To give you an idea, I applied a Facebook application which made a word cloud of the top ten words found in all of my status updates in 2009. The number one word, I believe, was "poop."

What you can expect
I try everything. Almost everything. Anything I can think would be worth trying. And then I like to write about it and share with anyone who cares to read. I am all about eating reasonably healthy, and my friends want me to post recipes. So you can expect recipes. I try a lot of baby products. So you can expect reviews on these products. I do research on health hazards found in everyday household products. You can expect thorough reports on my findings. I love to take my family on adventures. So you can also expect reviews of family (un)friendly venues. While I also have a tendency to rant and rave about politics and things, I will trymy best to refrain. There are enough bloggers clogging search engines of such content. Through out my posts, however, I am sure it will be lightly spiced with my point of view. I am a Baha'i, so I am not particularly invasive and threatening. I am mostly all-loving and all-accepting and sometimes find myself ranting that others should be too because we are all imperfect. I am no better than some random person living some alternative lifestyle that is not harming anyone. So you'll get some of that, but mostly things like this:

Diapers
My son is 1 1/2-years-old. While I have been curious to attempt cloth diapers, a part of me was also resistant. They are expensive, initially, so dishing out the extra $50 bucks during some month to get myself started on using cloth diapers just didn't seem feesible until now. I purchase all of my diapers at Diapers.com once a month so I can take advantage of the free shipping. For some reason, this month, we didn't seem to be hurting on our diaper supply, so I figured, to make up the rest of the $50, i'd get a few cloth diapers and just try it out.

Through out the year, I've read up on different brands. I came across the common complaint that most brands leak. Only one brand seemed to have the best reviews, BumGenius. I bought three cloth diapers, the 3.0's, which can be found on Diapers.com in a beautiful array of colors. While some sell their parts separately, BumGenius sells their cloth diaper covers and two diaper inserts (one newborn, the other from 10-35 lbs.) together as a set for $17.95. $17.95 for one diaper seems like a "hell no," but it's the whole deal. Many others sell everything separately and you end up spending more. I received them in the mail yesterday and immediately threw them on my son. They have adjustable snaps so they can fit a child of almost any age. At first, I put them on him all wrong. I left it too small and it was so snug on him, he could hardly walk. It was actually pretty funny to watch him waddle around the house. But he was pretty pissed off. So I fixed it. He peed in them three times yesterday and not once did they leak. He ran around like he usually does, and looked absolutely adorable while doing so.

He has yet to poop in them. I am still worried about the pooping. I am trying to put them on him when I am pretty sure he is not going to poop. The directions say to toss the poop in the toilet, but he usually has mud butt! I just keep wondering how on earth you put the mud poop in the toilet without... scraping it off. I don't exactly feel like going the extra mile and getting a poop scraper and leaving it in my bathroom. I don't like getting that personal with poop. And then to wash them? After they've been pooped on? I'd be more inclined to set them on fire than throw them in my washing machine. I am really not "one" with poop. Nope. Not my thing, yet. Maybe I can ease into it, but for now, I am going to try to avoid the poopy cloth diaper situation. See, my first blog entry, and I couldn't leave out a paragraph about poop. Awesome.

BumGenius has some great products, though. And so far, I am really excited about continuing to use these three cloth diapers every day. They even have organic cloth diapers, but I haven't been able to find them. On the BumGenius website, they have a list of locations of stores that sell their products. There is a place in Lancaster, CA (not far from me) that sells BumGenius, but they don't sell the organic, just the 3.0's. And Diapers.com only sells the 3.0's as well. If anyone ever finds the organics, let me know! But the place in Lancaster is called, Twinkle Stars. I haven't been there yet, but I will definitely head up there sometime soon.

I usually use the 7th Generation disposable diapers. They work wonderfully. I never have any problems with them and they are about as green as a disposable diaper comes without being pricey. I buy them Here for $0.33/diaper. But imagine if I use three cloth diapers a day (about a dollar's worth) every day for a year. I'd save $365 dollars from not using disposables. I spent about $60 on the three I have now. So in two months, they will have paid off their value. AND, I will have saved a landfill from 1,095 diapers. UNBELIEVABLE! I am really liking the idea of using both cloth and disposable diapers simultaneously. Disposables are great for poop and outings. Cloth diapers are great for bumming around at home. And I can't handle how cute they are! I also think my husband will get the hang of it, no problem, too. It's dad-proof!

So far, BumGenius and 7th Generation diapers make a winning pair!

Hope you enjoyed! Come back for more--coming soon!
